Mint Oreo truffles are a delicious, easy no-bake dessert, perfect for the holidays. Chocolate sandwich cookies, cream cheese, mint, and more chocolate make these irresistible!

You like chocolate? Chocolate cookies? How about mint? Then my oh my have I got the dessert for you. These things are a-freaking-mazing. You need to make them. You want to eat them. And you will definitely want to leave some for Santa on Christmas eve too. That is, if you want to guarantee yourself a permanent place on the nice list. And for some added security, put them in vanilla ice cream and you’ll guarantee your kid’s kid’s kid’s a permanent place.

When it comes to holiday cookies, I love a good no bake treat. Super easy, no cooking involved and they are always a huge hit with everyone. They even make great gifts to giveaway to friends and neighbors!

What do you need to make Oreo Truffles?

  • OREOS: Or your other favorite chocolate sandwich cookie will do just fine.
  • CREAM CHEESE: Use the full fat in this recipe. And make sure it’s softened really well so that it mixes well into the cookies.
  • PEPPERMINT EXTRACT: Gives them that perfect peppermint flavor.
  • DARK CHOCOLATE CHIPS: You could also use semi-sweet chocolate chips if you like.
  • SHORTENING: This is what is going to help harden the chocolate on the truffle.
  • SPRINKLES: I like to use festive Christmas colored jimmies but you can also use any other festive sprinkles or red and green sugar.

STEP BY STEP INSTRUCTIONS:

These are so easy to make! Just follow along with these step-by-step instructions:

  • STEP #1: Process the cookies in a food processor. No need to separate the cookies from the filling, just toss them in as is! Process them just until they are crumbled.
  • STEP #2: Combine cookies, cream cheese and peppermint extract in a bowl. Use a handheld mixer to mix really well. Use a cookie scoop to scoop the mixture into uniform balls.
  • STEP #3: In another bowl melt together chocolate chips and shortening together in the microwave in 30 second increments until chocolates have melted.
  • STEP #4: Dip the Oreo truffles into the melted chocolate one by one and place them on parchment paper. Top with sprinkles and chill until chocolate has hardened. Keep these stored in the refrigerator to keep them firm.

That’s it and that’s all! Isn’t it great how easy it will be to make these? They are so easy the kiddos can help too. It’s a great way to get the whole family involved in Christmas treat making.

Ingredients

Ingredients:

  • 30 whole chocolate sandwich cookies Oreo's, Newman's own etc...
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon mint extract
  • 12 ounces dark chocolate chips
  • 2 tablespoons shortening
  • 1 tablespoon sprinkles

Instructions

  • Put cookies in a food processor and pulse until the cookies are fine crumbs.

  • In a bowl combine cookie crumbs, cream cheese and mint extract. Use a hand held mixer to mix well.

  • Use a cookie scoop to scoop dough and roll a heaping teaspoon of the mixture into balls. Set aside.

  • Combine chocolate chips and shortening together in a bowl and microwave in 30 second increments until melted.

  • Dip rolled mixture into the melted chocolate one by one and place on a parchment paper lined baking sheet. Sprinkle with colored sugar. Refrigerate until chocolate has hardened. Serve. Store leftovers in the refrigerator.

    These are soooo good! And good news – you don’t even need to separate the filling from the cookies! When I make them I just throw the whole cookies into the food processor and they come out perfectly every time without that extra step!

    Oh my, I used to make something similar, only they weren’t coated in chocolate. I took them to an extended family Christmas, and was sworn at because people couldn’t stop eating them.

    Mine, however, did not have mint. I like your recipe better!
