This amazing frozen banana bitesrecipe has banana slices sandwiched with peanut butter and dipped in chocolate. It’s a perfectly healthy and indulgent treat. Think of them as mini chocolate-covered bananas with peanut butter in the middle.
Recently I’ve been mulling a new saying, health over flavor. That’s because I realize most of my days I’m looking for a balance between the two. We’ve all tasted food that tips the scale on the “healthy” side. It doesn’t usually leave us wanting more. And I’ve tipped the scale when I’ve opted for too much flavor.
That’s where these frozen banana bites come in. It’s the perfect recipe that offers both flavor and healthiness!
Why This Recipe is a Winner
- Bananas are sliced evenly to create balanced stacks, with a layer of peanut butter in the middle
- Adding peanut butter increases flavor and enhances the texture of these treats
- Melting chocolate with coconut oil makes the melted chocolate thinner and easier to dip the treats in, while providing a nice crunch when biting into the frozen treats.
Key Ingredients
You can find the full printable recipe, including ingredient quantities, below. But first, here are some explanations of ingredients and steps to help you make this recipe perfect every time.
Here are the ingredients you’ll need for this recipe, including substitution ideas:
- Bananas — You’ll need 3 medium-size ripe bananas
- Peanut butter — I like using creamy peanut butter, but you can substitute your favorite nut butter
- Chocolate Chips — Choose your favorite dairy-free chocolate chips
- Coconut oil — You can use refined coconut oil for a more neutral flavor
Ingredient Spotlight
What bananas are best for banana bites?
I recommend using ripe bananas that have a few or several brown spots. However, they should be firm and not “soggy”.
How to Make Frozen Bananas Bites
- Slice the bananas into 1/4-inch slices, keeping them as level as possible.
- Make banana “sandwiches” by topping a banana slice with peanut butter, and placing another banana slice on top.
- Place banana sandwiches on a tray and place them in the freezer for 10 or 15 minutes.
- Melt chocolate chips with coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl and stir until smooth.
- Dip each banana “sandwich” in the melted chocolate and then place them on a waxed paper-lined tray.
- Freeze chocolate-coated banana bites for 10 to 15 minutes. Then transfer the bites to a freezer bag.
Storage Tips
Keep the frozen banana bites in a freezer-safe container or bag in the freezer for up to 2 months. It may help to let them sit at room temperature for a minute or so before consuming.

Marly’s Tips
When you come to the curve in the banana, cut a leveling sliver to keep the banana slices even. These even slices will create a more symmetric treat that looks beautiful and tastes delicious!
